Our home in the Algarve, has what we would like to call an eclectic contemporary industrial look and feel. Nestled in an urbanisation that is comfortably quiet and peaceful, it is a 10 minute walk to the longest beach in Portugal called Meia Praia, a 15 minute walk to the Lagos Marina and 20 to the centre of the old town centre. Our design process when building this home was based heavily on how functional it would be for us, for our lifestyle. Every single nook and cranny has been built to suit our family’s needs. The kitchen is the heart of our home, where we entertain guests and gather as family. With an indoor outdoor style of living, the kitchen walks out into an outdoor dining, man kitchen and bbq area featuring our beloved Green Egg built into a bar on the one side and into the living room and study so that this was in one way a cohesive space where we could all be in the same area but have our own corner all at once. This is a great space to entertain since we have 300 days of sun here a year with a very thoughtfully built indoor-outdoor concept house. We knew we wanted several standout features in the architecture, hence the idea of the airwell and the floating stairs as well as the pool windows came into play. Because we love the Balinese concept of indoor to outdoor living, we conceptualised the house to be fully open with pocket sliding doors all around the living and kitchen areas. When the house is complete, it will feature five bedrooms, three baths, kitchen, outdoor kitchen and dining, living room, study, laundry room, powder room, man cave, garage, entertainment area, pool, an open concept kitchen outfitted with all SMEG appliances making up a total of 400sqmt.
